Do my qualifications allow me to teach in England?

Do my qualifications allow me to teach in England?

To teach children aged 11 to 18 in secondary school, you’ll need a Bachelor of Education (this can be from a university outside the UK) and have a specialisation in one or more subjects.

To teach children aged 3 to 11 in a primary school or early childhood setting you will need a Bachelor of Education (primary or early years)

If you have full teachers registration in NZ, AU, CA or the USA you can apply for your QTS through mutual recognition.  All other teachers will need to apply for an ENIC to show that their qualifications compare.

This is done through ‘statement of comparability’.

Teaching Salaries:

As a new teacher, your salary will be between £25,714 and £32,157, depending on where you teach.

The school you teach in will have their own pay scales for qualified teachers. Pay increases will always be linked to performance, not length of service.

Annual teacher pay scales for qualified teachers (with QTS) are:

Area Minimum Maximum
London £26,948 £42,624
Rest of England and Wales £25,714 £36,961

If you don’t have QTS you can still work as a teacher, the pay range is below

Area Minimum Maximum
London £19,613 £33,410
Rest of England and Wales £18,419 £28,735

You’ll get more holidays than people in many other professions. In school, full-time teachers work 195 days per year.
